See how a hovering autonomous underwater vehicle supports repeatable coral reef and benthic monitoring.
As part of ICRS 2026 in Auckland (19–24 July 2026), Boxfish Robotics is hosting a live demonstration of the Boxfish AUV on the final day of the symposium.
This in‑water session is intended for scientists, environmental managers, and technology users who want to better understand how autonomous underwater vehicles can support coral reef research and long‑term monitoring programmes. The demonstration will take place within central Auckland. Final location details will be shared with registered attendees closer to the event.
What You’ll See
During the demonstration, attendees will observe how the Boxfish AUV:
Executes autonomous, geo‑referenced transects
Maintains stable altitude and orientation over complex terrain
Collects high‑resolution still imagery and video suitable for analysis and photogrammetry
Uses onboard navigation and obstacle‑avoidance systems to operate safely in reef‑like environments
The session will also include time for questions and informal discussion with the Boxfish team.
Who We Are
Boxfish Robotics is a New Zealand‑based company designing underwater robotic platforms for marine science, environmental monitoring, and ocean research.
Our Boxfish AUV and ROV systems are used globally by research institutions, environmental consultancies, and government agencies to support applications such as coral reef monitoring, benthic habitat mapping, and long‑term environmental surveys.
We focus on practical, field‑ready systems that reduce deployment complexity while delivering high‑quality, repeatable data.
Who Should Attend
This demonstration will be most relevant for:
Coral reef and benthic researchers
Marine scientists and monitoring programme leads
Environmental managers and policy advisors
Organisations exploring autonomous monitoring tools for reefs and coastal environments
No prior experience with AUVs is required.
