Taking place September 29–October 2, 2025, at Chicago’s Navy Pier on Lake Michigan, OCEANS 2025 Great Lakes explores how the world’s largest freshwater system can inspire new technologies and partnerships.
With topics ranging from blue economy entrepreneurship and coastal resiliency to autonomous technologies and high-resolution mapping, OCEANS 2025 Great Lakes is a platform to shape the future of freshwater and marine innovation.
Boxfish Robotics comes to OCEANS 2025 with technology already trusted by innovators and explorers of the Great Lakes. Our Boxfish Luna ROV has been deployed by award-winning filmmakers Inspired Planet Productions for their documentary All Too Clear: Beneath the Surface of the Great Lakes, capturing rarely seen freshwater habitats across the Great Lakes in cinematic detail.
Most recently, the Boxfish Luna demonstrated its reliability and exceptional image quality during a scientific expedition, livestreaming a dive at the Superior Shoal from the research vessel Blue Heron.
At OCEANS 2025 Great Lakes, Boxfish Robotics will be presenting the next generation of autonomous underwater systems designed to make freshwater and marine exploration safer and more effective.
The Boxfish AUV carries forward the design philosophy of our Luna ROV into a fully autonomous, tetherless platform. It is ideal for benthic surveys, fish and coral studies, and photogrammetry. With the Boxfish AUV, we extend proven expertise into autonomous monitoring and survey missions that will support researchers, conservationists, and policymakers in addressing challenges such as habitat loss, invasive species, and climate impacts.
The ARV-i takes autonomy a step further, offering resident operation for long-term monitoring. Docked on the seafloor or lakebed, it can undock to run scheduled or on-demand missions, then return autonomously to its underwater dock for wireless charging and data transfer.
The resident capability enables continuous ecosystem observations while reducing operational risk, carbon footprint and cost, aligning directly with the OCEANS 2025 focus.
At Boxfish Robotics we believe that visualising beneath the waves is key to building a sustainable future. That’s why we create underwater vehicles that reduce human risk, improve data quality, and make underwater work more accessible. From man-deployed and resident AUVs to inspection-class ROVs, our systems empower scientists, researchers, and filmmakers to explore and understand the ocean in greater detail. Built in New Zealand, Boxfish Robotics solutions combine clarity, efficiency, and reliability in even the most challenging marine environments.
Meet the team at Stand #630 during OCEANS 2025 Great Lakes to see the Boxfish AUV and learn how Boxfish AUV and ARV-i can support autonomous freshwater monitoring.
